It's Tuesday night and I am catching up on Sunday night's fall line up. As I am fast forwarding through the commercials the ads for Target's Plaid Campaign catch my eye. They are beautiful, and show you how to coordinate your throw pillows with your sweater. But, they lack the real life looks for real women.
In this series I will share with you Styled Savvy Charlotte's Top Plaid Picks from Target in Accessories and Clothing for All Shapes and sizes. And how to wear them from the office, to the PTO meeting, to out to dinner!
I am a STRONG advocate for not being a slave to every trend that comes along each season. Doing so will keep you tossing most of your wardrobe every 3-6 months and having to shop again to replace it all.
What I do believe is adding 1-3 pieces of a trend that you love and that works for your shape. It's a best practice to purchase the best quality for the best value for your trendy items. Trust me consigning a blouse that was $20.00 versuses one that was $60+ hurts a lot less.
This is why Target is a great place to pick up something to add to your wardrobe for fall's new trend-Plaid.

Accessories are the easiest way to add trends into your current looks.
I love that Target is offering us many variations on the style of plaid. My favorite is the window pane pattern on the ballet flats you see below.
The Pieces used to build these looks are made up of Pseudo-Neutrals.
A Pseudo-Neutral is any color or print that can be worn with true neutrals (black, white, & nude) or with any other color/pattern combination to act as a neutral and adds interest to an outfit.
The Federal Navy skirt & dress, the Maroon pant and blouse, as well as the Leopard Print Heel all fall in this category.
How to Style the Handbag:
Look #1 Pairing Federal Navy with Black creates softness, while adding the leopard print shoe infuses interest in to your look. To create an even bolder more creative look top off with the cardigan with a small geometric pattern.
Look #2 The combo of the sparkles of the statement necklace against the pleated pattern of the white sweater creates instant texture to what could be a very simplistic outfit. If you have narrow shoulders drape the cardigan over your shoulders (no arms in sleeves, a la Rachel Zoe) to up the level of sophistication and balance out the bold color on your bottom half.
How to Style the Pointed Toe Flats
Look #3 Maroon and Federal Navy is a forever chic color combo. Adding in the window pane pattern at your feet shows off your personality with still respecting conversative dress code rules in this outfit.
Look #4 Floral + Plaid is one of the boldest choices for pattern mixing. And this pairing is so feminine and modern. A shirt dress that nips in at the waist is universally flattering. Make this look business casual by topping it off with the gray blazzer and adding sheer navy tights.
