Award show season just kicked off with the Golden Globes and the stars were out in their full glam force. Making this the perfect time to take a look at what they are wearing to for ideas to add something new this year to your wardrobe!
If you are thinking:
"Why am I looking at celebs on the red carpet for my everyday style?
I definitely don't throw on a ball gown for work, and I'm sure not rocking
diamond encrusted yoga pants to the play date this morning."
But you can still take inspiration from their formal wear to infuse into your everyday.
One of my key steps for establishing personal style is looking to style icons to choose elements of their style that speak to you. What that means is you aren't looking to be a carbon copy of a celebrity in the way you dress, but you can pick out specifics about their style that you want to incorporate into your own wardrobe.
Choose the elements of their looks that you love, and strategically adding them to your wardrobe to make it your own. As a stylist this is second nature to me, but I know it doesn't come that easy for everyone.
To show you how it's done I have my 4 favorite looks from the Golden Globes with a break down of the style elements, and how I would incorporate them into work, weekend, or a night out for my clients.
Tuxedo Inspired For Work
Your office has a casual dress code, but you know the importance of maintaining a level of professionalism in the work place. The blazer and shirt are classics that anchor your fun accessories and denim.
Sequins For Weekend
Don't save your sequins just for fancy parties. Wear them out to a game! The sporty accessories with your sequins creates a cool athleisure vibe.
Plunging Neckline for Evening Out
You can't go wrong with a jumpsuit in lieu of a little black dress. A trick to wearing a plunging neck and keeping the girls where they belong is fashion tape. For jewelry wear a statement earring and no necklace like Kristen to keep the focus at your face.
Don't let the simplicity fool you the embellishment around the neck + the animal print in the pant makes a statement. Opt for a small stud earring and wear your hair away from your face to showcase the collar.
Timeless A Line For Weekend
I have a feeling we are going to be seeing the shape of this floral top going into spring fashion. This look feels like a fresh style fit for the ladies of Mad Men. If you love a top with a wider hem remember to keep your skirt or pant slimmer for overall balance.
Canary Yellow for Evening Out
I couldn't help but think of Jackie O. when I was styling this look. The pieces are classics, but the yellow + blush is a chic modern combo.
Don't lose your edge boss lady! This pattern and texture combo is not for the wallflower. Just like Jessica you will get noticed, so wear your confidence on your sleeve.
Floral Embellishment For Weekend
I couldn't get enough of the texture mixing so you see it here again with the tweed detail on the top and heels. At first glance you make think adding a floral embellished jean won't get much wear. But these will quickly become a favorite for their versatility. I doubled the shoe options to show you how to go from errands to lunch with friends with a quick change.
Dramatic A Line For Evening Out
Show some leg like Jess! All the drama is in the skirt of this dress. I'm giving you two options on how this dress can feel with the accessories. One is classic and timeless and the other has a vampy edge.
